The Impact of Technology Acceptance on Work Engagement Among Employees of Joint-Stock Commercial Banks

Abstract:

Purpose: Digital transformation is reshaping the operations of Vietnamese joint-stock commercial banks, increasing the need for employees to embrace new technologies. This study examines the impact of technology acceptance on employees’ work engagement and investigates the roles of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use.
Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected from 251 employees working at Vietnamese joint-stock commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed to test the proposed model, and hypotheses were evaluated using the bootstrapping technique.
Findings: Technology acceptance has a positive and significant effect on employees’ work engagement. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use both positively influence technology acceptance, thereby indirectly enhancing employees’ work engagement.
Originality/value: This study clarifies the role of technology acceptance in the relationship between the core constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and employees’ work engagement in the Vietnamese banking sector. The findings also provide managerial implications for promoting digital transformation by enhancing employees’ technological capabilities and technology-use experiences.
