HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
The
Asian Journal of Economics and Banking (AJEB) is a peer-reviewed
scientific journal affiliated with the Ho Chi Minh University of Banking (HUB).
Its predecessor, the Banking Technology Review, was established in 2004.
In 2017, the Journal launched its English edition, and on 1 January 2019, both
the English and Vietnamese editions were officially renamed the Asian
Journal of Economics and Banking (AJEB). These milestones mark significant
stages in the Journal's internationalisation, the broadening of its
disciplinary scope, and the expansion of its scholarly influence. Since June
2020, the Asian Journal of Economics and Banking has been officially
published by Emerald Publishing (United Kingdom)
under the Diamond Open Access model, which grants readers free access to all
published content and exempts authors from any article processing charges. All
submissions undergo peer review and editorial evaluation in accordance with
established international standards.
AJEB
serves as an academic forum for high-quality research in economics, finance,
and banking, with a particular emphasis on emerging and developing economies in
Asia. The Journal places special focus on studies examining the role of
financial and banking systems in advancing the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), and actively promotes the application of contemporary
research methods, including statistics, econometrics, Bayesian approaches, and
machine learning, to economic and financial inquiry. AJEB is currently indexed
in a range of internationally recognised academic databases and discovery
services, including Cabells' Directories, the Directory of Open Access Journals
(DOAJ), EBSCO Discovery Service, EconBiz, Google Scholar, RePEc, Summon
(ProQuest), and WorldCat.
In
recent years, AJEB has recorded substantial growth in the number of
submissions, the geographic diversity of contributing authors, and the volume
of downloads and citations, attracting scholarly contributions from researchers
across multiple countries. Over the past five years, the scientific journal
system of HUB has published 545 research articles, of which approximately 120
are international publications. In 2022, the State Council for Professorship
Titles of Vietnam raised the academic credit range for both the Vietnamese and
English editions of AJEB from 0–0.5 to 0–0.75. Subsequently, on 11 July 2025,
the State Council for Professorship Titles issued Decision No. 26/QĐ-HĐGSNN,
under which AJEB (both Vietnamese and English editions) was further elevated to
the range of 0–1.0 points. From December 2025 onwards, the Journal has
continued to expand its scholarly publishing ecosystem with the launch of three
new titles: (i) Asian Journal of Social Sciences, Humanities and Policy
(Publication Licence No. 175/GP-BVHTTDL dated 10 December 2025); (ii) Asian
Journal of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (Publication Licence
No. 171/GP-BVHTTDL dated 9 December 2025); and (iii) the Asian Journal of
Applied Financial Econometrics (Publication Licence No. 174/GP-BVHTTDL
dated 10 December 2025). Guided by a clearly defined scholarly orientation and
supported by an internationally esteemed network of Editorial Board members and
Advisory Council, AJEB is progressively establishing itself as an influential
international scientific journal in the fields of economics, finance, and
banking.
